Wigner-Seitz cell[′wig·nər ′zīts ‚sel] (crystallography) A polyhedron about an atom in a face-centered cubic structure, made by drawing planes which perpendicularly bisect the lines to the nearest neighbors; in a body-centered cubic structure, bisecting planes of lines to nearest neighbors and next-nearest neighbors are used; such polyhedra fill space. |
