[ak′sep·təns ‚test] (industrial engineering) A test used to determine conformance of a product to design specifications, as a basis for its acceptance.

acceptance test

A test conducted by a purchaser (or an agent thereof) (a) to determine if the material, devices, or equipment delivered conforms to the purchase contract specifications and/or (b) to determine the degree of uniformity of the product supplied by the vendor.

acceptance test

A hardware test witnessed by customers or their representatives to demonstrate the product's acceptability. The term also is used to describe air tests conducted on aircraft before they are accepted by the customer. The latter meaning is used in military circles only.
