Wenhsien Tungkao
Wenhsien T’ungk’ao
(Research on Ancient Texts and Their Traditions), a Chinese historical and literary encyclopedia compiled by Ma Tuan-ling in the 13th century. It was supplemented twice before the 18th century. The Wenhsien T’ungk’ao and the encyclopedias T’ung tien (Political Collection) by Tu Yu (ninth century) and T’ung chih (Historical Collection) by Cheng Ch’iao (12th century) make up a trilogy called the San T’ung (Three Collections). De-tailed descriptions and word indexes (the Shih T’ung So Yin) have been compiled for this trilogy and for seven other encyclopedias.
