a UK Act which empowers the DEPARTMENT OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY to prescribe permitted weights and measures for the sale of certain products such as food and beverages. The act established a network of local authority officials to inspect goods sold in shops, public houses and other establishments to see if specified weights and measures are applied correctly and, on finding shortages, instigate proceedings against offenders through the courts.
