Web 3.0

Web 3.0

The next generation of the Web has taken a couple turns. Web 3.0 was first to be the manifestation of the Semantic Web, in which data resources throughout the Web are identified in a knowledge base (see Semantic Web).

More recently, the Web 3.0 moniker is used to refer to a blockchain-based Web that decentralizes core services such as DNS and people's digital identity. The Semantic Web and blockchain-based Web are concepts that may take a long time to mature. Neither of them may come to fruition in the next decade. See blockchain and Ethereum.
