antibiotic-resistant staphylococci

antibiotic-resistant staphylococci

Organisms that continue to multiply and cause disease in people treated with a range of wide-spectrum antibiotics including meticillin. Meticillin has been used for years in cases of infections with staphylococci that produce the penicillin-destroying enzyme penicillinase. Some staphylococci have, however, evolved that can survive in an environment of meticillin and these germs are now endemic in many hospitals.
