The leaves are deciduous, entire, and sharply dentate around the edge; the undersides are at first gray and tomentose and later green. The wintering buds are without scales. The flowers are bisexual, small, whitish, and gathered in corymbs. The mature fruits are black. The wayfaring tree grows in Western Europe, North Africa, and Asia Minor; in the USSR it is found in the southwestern European part, the Crimea, and the Caucasus. It is raised as an ornamental plant in gardens and parks as far north as Leningrad; it is also used in steppe forestation. wayfaring tree
