Pointing Machine

an apparatus used by sculptors to verify spaces and proportions when making a copy of sculpture. The working principle of the pointing machine derives from the principle in solid geometry whereby any point can be determined relative to three fixed points. Pointing machines are most often used to transfer the proportions of a plaster original to stone and in the execution of copies.
