Kotliakov, Vladimir Mikhailovich

 

Born Nov. 6, 1931, in the settlement of Krasnaia Poliana, now in the city of Lobnia, Moscow Oblast. Soviet glaciologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1962.

Kotliakov graduated from the department of geography at Moscow State University in 1954. In 1968 he was named head of the department of glaciology of the Geographic Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He has published works on general problems of glaciology, the earth’s snow cover, and glaciation in Antarctica, the Caucasus, and the Pamirs. Kotliakov is the editor in chief of the series of collections Materialy gliatsiologicheskikh issledovanii: Khronika obsuzhdeniia (Materials on Glaciological Research: A Chronicle of Discussion), which he founded in 1961.
