Spherosome a granule found in plant cells. Some botanists regard spherosomes as a mass of ribosomes, and others consider the granules to be portions of the endoplasmic reticulum. The discovery that acid phosphatase and nonspecific esterases are active in spherosomes showed a correspondence between spherosomes and lysosomes of animal cells. Spherosomes, however, have a higher lipide content than lysosomes. |
