Pohaiwan
Pohaiwan
a gulf in the northwestern Yellow Sea, on the shores of China. The gulf is up to 40 m deep. It is separated from the open sea by the Shantung Peninsula. In the coastal region it freezes from November to March. The Hwang and Hai rivers empty into the Pohaiwan. The tides are semidiurnal and are up to 3.4 m high. The port T’angku is the outer harbor of the city T’ienchin. There is fishing, and salt is obtained from the coastal seawater.
