Sinkholes

(Russian, zapadiny), flat depressions, most often of a round shape, found in the steppe and forest-steppe zones. The diameters of the sinkholes reach dozens and hundreds of meters, and their depth ranges from a fraction of a meter to several meters. They usually arise as a result of the subsidence of the soil from the leaching and washing away of underlying rocks.
