Siniaia

Siniaia

 

a river in the Byelorussian SSR, the Latvian SSR, and Pskov Oblast, RSFSR; a left tributary of the Velikaia. The Siniaia is called the Siniukha in Byelorussia and the Zilupe in Latvia. It is 195 km long and drains an area of 2,040 sq km. The river is fed primarily by snow. The mean flow rate 27 km from the mouth is 10.1 cu m per sec. The Siniaia freezes between late November and early January, and the ice breaks up in late March or early April.

a river in the Yakut ASSR, a left tributary of the Lena. The Siniaia is 597 km long and drains an area of 30,900 sq km. Originating on and flowing along the Lena Plateau, it is fed primarily by snow. The mean flow rate 38 km from the mouth is 40.6 cu m per sec. The river freezes in October, and the ice breaks up in May. The river freezes solid for 50 to 80 days.
