Sinhalese Kingdom
Sinhalese Kingdom
the name accepted in historiography for the independent state of the Sinhalese people, which existed in what is now Sri Lanka (Ceylon) from the third century B.C. to 1815. The history of the Sinhalese kingdom is divided into three periods, named after the three cities that successively served as the kingdom’s capital: the Anuradhapura period (third century B.C. to eighth century A.D.), the Polonnaruwa period (eighth to 13th century), and the Kandy period (15th century to 1815).
