PodargidaePodargidae[pə′där·jə‚dē]Podargidae(in Russian, belonogi), a family of birds of the order Caprimulgiformes. The two genera, Podargus and Batrachostomus (frogmouths), include 12 species, distributed from northeastern India and Indochina to Australia and Tasmania. They are forest birds. Podargus builds its nest from twigs in the forks of branches; it lays two to three eggs. Batrachostomus builds a saddle-shaped nest of down, cobwebs, and lichens; there is one egg to a clutch.
