screen grid
screen grid n (Electronics) electronics an electrode placed between the control grid and anode of a valve and having a fixed positive potential relative to the grid. It acts as an electrostatic shield preventing capacitive coupling between grid and anode, thus increasing the stability of the device. Sometimes shortened to: screen See also suppressor grid screen grid
screen grid[′skrēn ‚grid] (electronics) A grid placed between a control grid and an anode of an electron tube, and usually maintained at a fixed positive potential, to reduce the electrostatic influence of the anode in the space between the screen grid and the cathode. Also known as screen. screen gridA grid used in tetrode and pentode vacuum tubes that reduces the electrostatic influence of the plate on the control grid. A fixed bias voltage is applied to the screen grid, which sits between the control grid and plate (anode). The screen grid's fixed potential helps isolate the control grid from any fluctuations that occur on the plate. See tetrode and pentode.FinancialSeescreen |
