[′sper·ē ‚prä·səs] (chemical engineering) The electrolytic manufacture of basic lead carbonate (white lead) from desilverized lead that contains some bismuth; impure lead collects at the anode, and carbon dioxide is passed into the solution to convert the lead to carbonate.
