Television Raster

the set of lines into which a transmitted image is translated as the image is read from the target of a television camera tube, or the set of lines of the reproduced image as it is synthesized on the screen of a kinescope; the raster constitutes the television frame. In broadcasting television, the raster has a rectangular shape. Its format, that is, the ratio of the width to the height, and the format of the frame are usually equal to 4:3. In the absence of a video signal or when the video signal is constant, a television raster on a kinescope screen is seen as a uniformly luminous rectangle.
