Tomislav
Tomislav
Dates of birth and death unknown. Croatian prince (c. 910–c. 925) and king (c. 925–c. 928). Member of the Trpimirovic dynasty.
Tomislav considerably expanded the Croatian state at the expense of Hungary and Bulgaria. As an ally of the Byzantine emperor, he was granted rule over the Dalmatian cities and the title of proconsul (923?). During Tomislav’s reign, church councils convening in Split in 925 and 928 severely restricted the liturgical use of Slavonic.
