Uldza

a river in the Mongolian People’s Republic. The Uldza, which measures 400 km in length, rises in the spurs of the Khentei (Henteyn) Mountains and flows primarily across the steppe plains in the northeastern part of the Mongolian People’s Republic. In its lower reaches it breaks up into branches, which empty into the lakes of Torei, which dry up periodically, near the border between the Mongolian People’s Republic and the USSR. High water occurs in the spring, and there are flash floods in the summer and autumn. In the last 60 km of its course the river periodically dries up. The Uldza is frozen from October to April. In places it freezes down to the bottom, and consequently considerable Aufeis is formed. The river is used to supply water to stock-raising farms.
