synoptic climatology

synoptic climatology

[sə′näp·tik ‚klī·mə′täl·ə·jē] (climatology) The study and analysis of climate in terms of synoptic weather information, principally in the form of synoptic charts; the information thus obtained gives the climate (that is, average weather) of a given locality in a given synoptic situation rather than the usual climatic parameters which represent averages over all synoptic conditions.
