释义 | Syngnathus
SyngnathusSyngnathus(pipefish), a genus offish of the family Syngna-thidae, of the order Solenichthyes. The fish have slender, elongated (up to 40 cm), six- or seven-sided bodies, covered completely with an armor of bony plates. The snout is elongated in the form of a pipe, and the mouth is small and toothless. The gills resemble tuftlike swellings and are covered with a large opercular bone. There are no pelvic fins, and the caudal fin is very small. The male has a brood pouch on either his abdomen or caudal shaft, into which the female deposits her roe during reproduction. The roe develops in isolation from the external environment; it receives oxygen from the blood vessels of the membrane of the brood pouch. After the fry hatch from the roe, the membrane is sloughed off. Upon hatching, the fry remain for some time in the brood pouch. There are approximately 50 known species distributed in tropical, subtropical, and temperate seas. In the USSR approximately ten species are found in the Black, Caspian, Baltic, and Japan seas. Species of this genus have no commercial value. Syngnathus
