Qualified Impairment Insurance

Qualified Impairment Insurance

A rider attached to a health insurance policy providing coverage for an illness or injury for which the policyholder ordinarily would not qualify. This is especially useful for a preexisting condition or some other impediment to insurance. For example, if one has Crohn's disease, one's regular health insurance policy may not pay for treatment related to that illness. However, one may purchase qualified impairment insurance that would pay for these treatments.
