Antiaircraft Director

Antiaircraft Director

the totality of instruments and mechanisms for determining and transmitting data to guns for firing at mobile air targets.

The antiaircraft director system includes instruments for determining the target coordinates (optical range finders), a computer (tracker), a mechanism for transmitting initial firing data to guns, a unit for supplying power to the tracker, and a data transmission mechanism. During the firing, the coordinates of moving targets (azimuth, angle of sight, and altitude) are constantly being fed into the tracker, where the initial firing data are computed (established azimuth, angle of elevation, and timed fuse setting). Antiaircraft directors are part of antiaircraft artillery complexes.
