single donor transfusion
single donor transfusion
A form of directed (blood product) donation that consists of the administration of a particular blood component (e.g., plasma, platelets) from the same donor to one or more recipients with a special need (e.g., formation of antibodies to a “public” antigen). The volume of a single donor unit is 220–225 mL.Indications
Patients who are refractory to random platelet concentrations—indicated by a failure to respond with the expected 1-hour post-transfusion increase in peripheral platelet count.
