Richardsonian style Richardsonian style (1870–1900)Named for Henry Hobson Richardson, this style featured a straightforward treatment of stone, broad roof planes and a select grouping of door and window openings. It also featured a heavy, massive appearance with a simplicity of form and rough masonry. The effect is based on mass, volume, and scale rather than decorative detailing, except on the capitals of columns. The building entry includes a large arched opening without columns or piers for support. |
