Trascău

 

mountains in Rumania, part of the Western Rumanian Mountains. The Trascău Range is about 80 km long, and the maximum elevation is 1,370 m (Mount Dîmbu). In the east the range ends abruptly near the Transylvanian Plateau; in the west it gradually becomes the Metalici Range. The Trascău Mountains are composed mainly of limestones, conglomerates, and igneous rocks. They are deeply dissected, and karst has developed. The slopes are covered with beech and mixed forests.
