Singkep

an island in the South China Sea, in the Lingga Archipelago, off the eastern coast of Sumatra; part of Indonesia. Area, 828 sq km. Coral reefs fringe the island’s shores. Hills and low mountains, to 475 m in elevation, dominate the interior. The island is composed primarily of granites. Tin ore is mined—in 1972 approximately 1,400 tons.
