Vissarion Lominadze
Lominadze, Vissarion Vissarionovich
Born June 6, 1897 in Kutaisi; died 1935. Soviet party figure. Member of the Communist Party from March 1917. Son of a teacher.
In 1913, Lominadze became involved in the work of Social Democratic student organizations in Kutaisi and St. Petersburg. In April 1917 he went to work in the military organization of the St. Petersburg committee of the RSDLP (Bolshevik). In August 1917 he became a secretary of the Kutaisi committee of the party; the Menshevik authorities repeatedly arrested him in the summer of 1918. He was chairman of the Tbilisi committee in 1918-19, a member of the Baku committee of the RCP (Bolshevik), a member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the CP of Azerbaijan, and a member of the executive committee of the Baku soviet in 1919-20. He was a member of the Bureau of the Orel Provincial Committee of the RCP(B) in 1920-21. In 1921-22 he worked as a party organizer in the Vyborg district of Petrograd and participated in the suppression of the Kronstadt mutiny. From 1922 to 1924 he was a secretary of the Central Committee of the CP of Georgia. During 1924-25 he took courses on Marxism given under the auspices of the Communist Academy. He worked in the Comintern from 1925 to 1929; from 1925 to 1926 he was a secretary of the Executive Committee of the Communist Youth International and a member of the Bureau of the Central Committee of the All-Union Lenin Communist Youth League (Komsomol). In 1929 he was head of the agitation and propaganda section of the Nizhny Novgorod Provincial Committee of the party. In 1930 he was first secretary of the Transcaucasian regional committee of the ACP (Bolshevik) and in 1931-32 was chief of the scientific research sector of the People’s Commissariat of Supplies of the USSR. In 1932-33 he was a party organizer at a machine-building plant in Moscow. He became secretary of the Magnitogorsk city committee of the ACP(B) in August 1933.
Lominadze was a delegate to the Tenth through Seventeenth Congresses of the Party; at the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Congresses he was elected a candidate member of the Central Committee, and at the Sixteenth Congress a member of the Central Committee of the ACP(B). He was awarded the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Banner.
