Usman Iusupov

Born March 1901, in the kishlak (hamlet) of Kaftarkhana, in what is now Fergana Raion, Fergana Oblast; died May 7, 1966, in Iangiiul’. Soviet state and party figure. Member of the CPSU from 1926.

The son of a farmhand, Iusupov became a worker at a cotton-ginning plant in 1918. In 1928 he was named secretary of the Tashkent okrug committee of the Communist Party (Bolshevik) of Uzbekistan. From 1929 to 1937 he was secretary of the Central Committee of the CP(B) of Uzbekistan and chairman of the Central Asian Bureau of the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions. He served as first secretary of the Central Committee of the CP(B) of Uzbekistan from 1937 to 1950.

From 1950 to 1953, Iusupov was minister of the cultivation of cotton of the USSR, and from 1953 to 1955 he was chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Uzbek SSR. Beginning in 1955, he was director of a series of sovkhozes and of the Khalkabad Combine.

Iusupov was a delegate to the Sixteenth through Nineteenth Party Congresses, and from 1939 to 1956 he was a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU. He also served as a deputy to the first through fourth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

Iusupov was awarded six Orders of Lenin, three other orders, and various medals.
