Scoresby Scoresby a sound in the Greenland Sea on the eastern coast of Greenland. A sea-filled tectonic depression, Scoresby Sound extends 340 km inland; it has a depth of 400 to 600 m in its central part and up to 1,450 m in the fjords. It is icebound from October through June. Tides are semidiurnal and mixed, reaching 1.3 m. Scoresby Sound was named in honor of the Scoresbys, father and son, who were Scottish whalers. ThesaurusSeescoria |
