rhinomanometry

rhinomanometry

[ri″no-mah-nom´ĕ-tre] measurement of the airflow and pressure within the nose during respiration; nasal resistance or obstruction can be calculated from the figures obtained.

rhi·no·ma·nom·e·try

(rī'nō-mă-nom'ĕ-trē), 1. The use of a rhinomanometer. 2. The measurement of nasal air flow and pressures.

rhinomanometry

ENT A technique for evaluating nasal patency or obstruction, and airflow by simultaneously measuring transnasal pressure and airway resistance, and pressure-flow characteristics. Types–Anterior A pressure tap is inserted into a sealed nostril. Posterior A face mask is combined with a pressure tap in the oral cavity or oropharynx; used to measure net bilateral airflow resistance. Unilateral posterior One nostril is taped during the procedure. Cf Acoustic rhino(mano)metry, Nasal airway resistance.
