bi·cu·cul·line (bī'kū-kyū'lēn), An alkaloid naturally occurring in the d-form; found in Dicentra cucullaria and Adlumia fungosa (family Fumariaceae) and several Corydalis species; a powerful convulsant that acts by antagonizing γ-aminobutyric acid, an inhibitory neurotransmitter.bicuculline A photosensitive alkaloid first derived from Dicentra cucullaria, which is also found in Adlumia fungosa and herbs of genus Corydalis and Fumariaceae. It is a competitive antagonist of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid at the GABAA receptor, and has been used in model systems for epilepsy. |
