an urban-type settlement and administrative center of Pliussa Raion, Pskov Oblast, RSFSR. Situated on the Pliussa River, a tributary of the Narva. Railroad station on the Pskov-Luga line, 93 km northeast of Pskov. Pliussa has a milk plant and a wood-products combine.


Pliussa

 

(Pliusa), a river in Pskov and Leningrad oblasts, RSFSR, a right tributary of the Narva. It is 281 km long and drains an area of 6,550 sq km. Originating in Lake Zaplius’e, it empties into the Narva Reservoir. The Pliussa is fed primarily by snow. The mean flow rate is 50 cu m per sec. The river freezes in November or December, and the ice breaks up in late March or early April. It is used for floating timber. The city of Slantsy is situated on the Pliussa.
