Simonov Island

(Tuvana-Tholo), an uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean, south of the Fiji archipelago, at 21° 2′ 55″ S lat. and 178° 46′ 23″ E long. It is 1.85 km long and about 1 km wide. Part of the British Commonwealth, the island was discovered in 1820 during the first Russian Antarctic expedition, which was led by F. F. Bellingshausen and M. P. Lazarev, and was named in honor of the expedition’s astronomer, I. M. Simonov.
