Pleshcheevo Lake

(also called Pereslavskoe Lake), a morainal lake in southwestern Yaroslavl Oblast, RSFSR. It has an area of 50.8 sq km and a maximum depth of 25 m. It is round in shape. The lake freezes in November, and the ice breaks up in April. It is fed primarily by snow. The range of fluctuation of the water level is 1.3 m. The Trubezh River flows into the lake, which in turn is the source of the Veksa River. Fish caught in Pleshcheevo Lake include vendace (Coregonus albulo), Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis), and ruff (acerina cernua). On the southeastern shore is the city of Pereslavl’-Zalesskii. In the late 17th century, Peter I’s training flotilla engaged in war games on the lake.
