Teke
a bitter lake in the Kazakh SSR. Its area is 265 sq km but is subject to seasonal change. The average depth is 0.5 m, and the maximum depth 1 m. The shores are steep, with indentations in some places, and there are small islands. Lake Teke is bordered by a broad strip of saline soils and is fed by snow and, to a lesser extent, groundwater. There is periodic precipitation of salt.
