Ushakov Island
Ushakov Island
an island in the northern part of the Kara Sea. The island has an area of more than 300 sq km and elevations of up to 350 m. It is covered by an ice cap. The island was discovered in 1935 by a Soviet expedition on the icebreaker Sadko and was named in honor of G. A. Ushakov. A polar station was established on Ushakov Island in 1954.
