Member city-states were bound to wage wars together ana kept a common treasury and a number of common administrative bodies. The most famous symmachiai were the Peloponnesian League (headed by Sparta), the Delian League (headed by Athens), the Boeotian League (headed by Thebes), the Arcadian League (headed by Megalopolis), and the Corinthian, Aetolian, and Achaean leagues.
