Pyè

(also Prome), one of the oldest cities of Burma; a center of the Pagan empire and of later states. The city of Khmoza, or Tarekitara (ancient Prome), is located 7 km from modern Pyè; from the fifth to seventh centuries (according to some sources, from the fifth to eighth centuries), Khmoza was the capital of Srikshetra, which was the state of the Pyu people. Pyè is the site of archaeological excavations.
