Ukrainian Carpathians

The highest point is Mount Goverla, with an elevation of 2,061 m. The slopes of the mountains are covered with mixed and dark coniferous forests, with beech forests in the lower zone. The mountain meadows of the upper zone, locally called poloniny, are used as summer pastures. The mountains have deposits of petroleum, natural gas, brown coal, sulfur, ozokerite, and rock and potassium salt.
