Pļaviņas Hydroelectric Power Plant

 

(full name, V. I. Lenin Pļaviņas Hydroelectric Power Plant), a power plant located on the Daugava River (Zapadnaia Dvina), in the Latvian SSR, near the city of Stuĉka. Construction was begun in 1961 and completed in 1966. The rated power is 825 megawatts (ten units of 82.5 megawatts each), and the average annual power production totals 1.5 billion kilowatt-hours. The hydro-engineering system includes a power house of the integrated type, earthen dams, and dikes. The reservoir that begins at the city of Pļaviņas has a volume of 509 million cu m. The plant is part of the integrated power grid of the northwest.
