transporter associated with antigen processing

TAP1

A gene on chromosome 6p21.3 that encodes a member of the MDR/TAP subfamily of the superfamily of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, which plays a role in multidrug resistance. TAP1 pumps degraded cytosolic peptides across the endoplasmic reticulum into the membrane-bound compartment.
Molecular pathology
TAP1 mutations have been tentatively linked to ankylosing spondylitis, type 1 diabetes and coeliac disease.

TAP

An intracellular protein that carries antigens to the endoplasmic reticulum of cells, where the antigens may be transformed for presentation.
