Platybasic Skull
Platybasic Skull
a type of axial skull characteristic of a number of groups of vertebrates, including cyclostomes, many fishes, and amphibians. A platybasic skull is characterized by a broad base and widely separated orbits. The brain cavity extends between the orbits. In mammals, owing to intensive development of the forebrain, the tropibasic skull characteristic of their ancestors converted again into the platybasic skull.
