silkscreen printing

The use of fine silk mesh mounted on a frame to support a stencil, so that “island” parts of the stencil (like the center of an “o”) do not fall out. Alternatively, the use of a similar screen in which the cut stencil is replaced by painting the design directly on the screen with a glue or varnish. Ink is forced through unmasked parts of the screen by a squeegee. Andy Warhol was well known for his silkscreen pictures.
