Union of October 17

in Russia, a counterrevolutionary party that united the upper strata of the commercial and industrial bourgeoisie and the pomeshchiki (landowners) with large landholdings. The union was established in November 1905, after the publication of the tsarist Manifesto of October 17, 1905.
