Schouten, Jan Arnoldus

 

Born Aug. 8, 1883, in Amsterdam. Dutch mathematician. Member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences (1933).

Schouten graduated from the Technological University of Delft in 1908. He was a professor at the university from 1914 to 1943. Schouten carried out research on the theory and applications of tensor analysis and differential geometry. Among the subjects of his works are the Pfaffian problem and relativistic physics.
