unionateness

unionateness

the extent to which employee organizations define themselves as TRADE UNIONS, maintain independence from employers, display a willingness to adopt COLLECTIVE BARGAINING and industrial action, and identify with the broader labour movement. Thus a contrast may be drawn between most manual trade unions, usually high on ‘unionateness’, and many ‘white-collar’ unions, often far less committed to the general ideals of trade unionism. see also INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS.
