transpersonal psychology

transpersonal psychology

A general term that encompasses various philosophies about the development of mystical, spiritual and psychic experiences, which are the springboard for maximising the human potential; transpersonal psychological therapies are intended to remove a person’s “mask”, which is believed to prevent a person from achieving his or her maximum personal potential.
Some forms of transpersonal psychology (e.g., Sufism and Buddhism) are primarily religious philosophies; others (Jungian psychoanalysis, meditation, prayer, psychosynthesis and Zen Buddhism) overlap formal and informal healing philosophies.
