Signed Promise to Appear

Signed Promise to Appear

in the USSR, a written promise by an accused person to appear when summoned by the person conducting the inquiry, the investigator, the procurator, or the court and also to inform them of a change of residence. Unlike the signed promise not to depart, the signed promise to appear is not a measure of restraint and is discarded in the absence of grounds for the application of a measure of restraint. Violation of the signed promise to appear may lead to enforced appearance, that is, the accused person is forcibly delivered by militia to the investigator, procurator, or court or a measure of restraint is selected.
